Making Plans

Have you ever wondered why there isn’t enough time in the day? If you’re like me, there are days that it seems there just isn‘t enough time to accomplish all the things you need to do. I’m sure you have had those days, even when you’ve planned them out. We make our plans for the day, write down a list, get up early, and off we go to get those things done! But then the inevitable happens, something we didn’t plan on, and then another, and another, and by now the plan or list goes out the window! Maybe you become frustrated, overwhelmed, and even ready to just quit on the day, week, month......I guess you get the point.

I’d imagine that many of us are kind of like that at this very moment. Not a one of us planned for a global pandemic. Seemingly all at once, everyone of our plans has been thrown out the window. Plans for school, for weddings, for churches, for careers, for houses, and the list goes on and on. There’s no way that we could have planned for this, even those who plan every minute detail. But do you know who did plan on this? Yep, that’s right, God did. God knew that we would all be right here at this very moment. He even told us he would know.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” - Proverbs 16:9

This truth reminds us that we can make as many plans as we want, but God alone is in charge of our steps. That means that we are right where we are suppose to be at this moment Child of God. Now this certainly doesn’t mean we are without help or hope. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. When our plans don’t work out, it’s not time to despair, rather it’s time to do what we should have been doing the entire time.....look to God!

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” - Hebrews 4:16

As we find here in Hebrews, what we should do is draw near to his ”throne of grace”, made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus. What we need right now is not more time, but rather, we need more grace. It is God’s grace that sustains us, keeps us, and helps us in ”times” of need. And this is a time of need. We “need” him, so that we might ”trust” him, “live” for him, and “share“ him with those who do not know him. Remember, we can make our plans, but God orders our steps to lead us right back to HIM!
